The Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences successfully organized an orientation programme for newly admitted BSc. Information Technology students to formally welcome them into the department and introduce them to academic and administrative life at the university. The programme commenced with an opening prayer led by a female freshman, setting a reflective and welcoming tone for the session. The Master of Ceremonies introduced members of staff present, after which the Head of Department, Prof. Peter Appiahene, delivered the welcome address. In his remarks, he officially welcomed the freshers to the department, highlighted the vision and mission of ITDS, and encouraged students to remain disciplined, focused, and committed throughout their academic journey.
Dr. A. A. Amponsah subsequently engaged students with a detailed presentation on the BSc. IT curriculum, areas of specialization, and the wide range of career prospects available in the field of Information Technology. This session provided students with clarity on the structure of the programme and the skills they are expected to acquire. The Industrial Attachment Coordinator, Mr. Jacob Mensah, then addressed students on the importance of industrial attachment, expectations during the attachment period, and placement procedures, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session. Further guidance was provided by the Exams Officer, Mr. Micheal Ayitey, who educated students on examination regulations, assessment procedures, and academic integrity. Miss Felicia Akoto-Danso, the Senior Administrative Assistant, also briefed students on administrative processes within the department, emphasizing proper communication channels and documentation. Both sessions allowed students to ask questions and seek clarification on academic and administrative matters. The department’s technical support services were introduced by Mr. James Dow, who outlined available technical assistance and digital resources accessible to students. An open question-and-answer session followed, giving freshers the opportunity to interact freely with departmental officials. This was followed by a musical interlude and refreshment break, providing students with time to relax and network. Presentations were also made by Prudential Bank and the UENR Forensic Sciences unit, exposing students to financial literacy options and interdisciplinary opportunities within the university. The MC later introduced the departmental student executives, after which the President of the Information Technology Students’ Association (ITS), Mr. Vincent Opoku, addressed the freshers and encouraged active student participation and leadership.
The programme concluded with information on the departmental dress code, class divisions, and final remarks delivered by the Head of Department. Announcements were made to keep students informed of upcoming activities, and the session was officially brought to a close with a closing prayer led by a male freshman. Overall, the orientation programme was highly informative and interactive, equipping newly admitted students with essential knowledge and confidence as they begin their academic journey in the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences.
