On June 5, 2025, 59 Level 400 students from the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences (ITDS) at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) embarked on an enlightening field trip to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Led by Dr. Michael Opoku and Mr. Jacob Mensah, the students gained hands-on experience and exposure to real-world IT infrastructure and systems. During the visit, they toured various facilities, including the Data Centre, Server and Networking Room, IT School Support Room, Cyber Security Room, and Hardware Repair Support Room.
The students were warmly welcomed by the KNUST Registrar, IT Director, and other IT department staff, who shared valuable insights into the university's IT operations. Some of the key highlights of the trip included learning about physical server operations, tools for camera monitoring, and a biometric attendance system developed by KNUST. The field trip was a resounding success, providing students with practical knowledge and exposure to industry-standard IT systems. The students benefited greatly from interacting with IT professionals and learning about real-world applications of IT concepts.
The ITDS department would like to extend its gratitude to the University Management, Dean of the School of Sciences, Head of Department, and the Information Technology Society for approving the trip, Dr. Michael Opoku and Mr. Jacob Mensah for their leadership, and the KNUST staff for their hospitality and support. This trip is a testament to the university's commitment to providing students with experiential learning opportunities that prepare them for the world of technology.
